Windows 2000 adding a modem Windows 2000 requires specific drivers in order to successfully install a modem. Some modems will install and operate with the drivers provided for Windows NT, but not all. In preference to using our instructions below, please follow instructions supplied by the modem manufacturer instead. As a guide ONLY we've included the following information, however each modem is different. Should you encounter any problems, please call the support number for the manufacturer of your modem and check it's suitability for use with Windows 2000. TIP 1: You may need the modem drivers for Windows 2000, as supplied by your modem manufacturer, before continuing. TIP 2: If your modem is ALREADY INSTALLED and isn't detected at any time, please ensure it's turned on and RESTART your computer for the installed modem to be recognized. Failure to recognize a serial port modem, unless it's turned on BEFORE starting the computer, is a quirk of Windows 2000. 1. Connect your modem to the PC and power supply.
Double Click on ‘My Computer ‘
Double Click on ‘Control Panel ‘
Double click on the ‘Phone and Modem’ icon
Click on the 'Modems' tab.
Now choose the 'Add' button and follow the instructions to install your modem.
Press the 'Next' button and follow the instructions on your screen. If Windows 2000 doesn't detect your modem please read on.
You can install the modem manually by using the drivers for Windows 2000 as provided by the manufacturer of your modem. Firstly try checking the list of modems and if yours is shown, choose the correct modem from the list. If your modem doesn't appear in the list, AND you have the drivers provided by the manufacturer, choose the 'Have Disk' button and locate the drivers on the drive of your computer where they're stored. In either case follow the instructions on your screen. Now you need to ensure your connection for Internet is setup to use the newly installed modem. Go to Set up a new connection. TIP: If the PC Internet connection is already setup, please ensure your connection is using the correct modem by following the steps below. 1. To register your modem for use with your existing Internet connection, 2. Go to the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop. 3. Double click on the 'Control Panel' icon. 4. Double click on the 'Network and Dial Up Connections' icon.
Right mouse click on the connection you want to use the modem for and click 'Properties' from the shortcut menu.
Now ensure a tick appears next to your newly installed modem and your connection will use it. Please untick any modems listed, but not currently installed. Your connection is now set up to use the newly installed modem. |
