Win 98 setting the password
Windows 95/98 has a habit of not letting you click Save Password in
the Connect to the Internet dialog box. Please follow the instructions below to
save your password:
1. Get into the Windows network settings by selecting: My Computer ->
Control Panel -> Network
2. In the Network dialog box, you should have at least TCP/IP and
Dial-Up Adaptor. Click on Add
3. Select Client, and then click Add. Select Microsoft
in the left hand side window, and then select Client for Microsoft
Networks on the right hand side. Then click OK. You should now have
Client for Microsoft Networks listed along with TCP/IP and
Dial-Up Adaptor.
4. Click on the Identification tab, and make sure that something is
typed in all of the text boxes, and enter your Intertech Country Internet
username (eg. fred@icisp.net.au ) for the Computer Name.
5. Click OK, and you should be asked to restart Windows. The next time
you start Windows, you will be presented with a dialog box that asks you for a
name and password. Type your username, and don't enter a password. It will ask
for confirmation of the password - just press enter.
(Note: If you enter no password the first time (i.e. just a username), you
will not be prompted on subsequent startups. The only time a logon dialog box
will appear is when the Users can customize their preferences and desktop
settings is checked in the Control Panel -> passwords,
which is not the default.)
When you start up your computer now, it will bring up this dialog box asking
for your password - just press Enter to log on each time.
6. When you next attempt to connect to Intertech Country Internet, the
Save Password check box should be able to be ticked, and it should
remember it from then on.
