| How
do I update my AVG (grisoft) Anti Virus program? |

The little
AVG quilt looking icon on my taskbar has turned grey, what does
this mean and what do I have to do to fix it?

Don't
panic, it simply means that your AVG virus information database
is out of date and needs to be updated. In order to ensure that your AVG is providing the maximum amount of antivirus
protection, your AVG Free System must be kept up-to-date.
AVG normally
checks for updates each time you connect to the Internet but you
can do a manual update yourself. AVG is usually setup to do a system
scan at 5:30pm each night. It can take a little while do scan
depending on how many files you have on your harddrive.
There are
2 ways that you can update your AVG.
AVG will download the appropriate update file and will
perform the update for your AVG system.
The first
way is to do the following:
1. Verify and update your computer's time and date, AVG uses this info to
determine if you have the correct files.
2. To open the Control
Center, click on the AVG Free (big quilt looking icon) button on your desktop

3. click
on the "check for updates" button

4. A pop up
window will appear click on the "Internet button"

5. If AVG
finds an update it will let you know and will tell you an Update
is Available. click on the button to start the download. The
window shown below will pop up and the downlaod metre will start
filling up letting you know the progress of the update. When
it has finished it will close itself and then install the updates
automatically for you. (if you get a timeout error try again)

That's it
for this way you have now updated AVG.
The second way
is just as easy as the method above.
1. Right click
on the little icon at the bottom right corner on your windows
taskbar (the one shown below
that I have put the red square around)

2.
Now left click on the "Check for Updates" name (highlighted
in grey) Now just follow the steps from step 4 above in the first
section.
You may need
to do this a couple of times just to be sure that you have all updates. When
you see the following (shown below) you are all up to date. Now
that wasn't too hard was it! Now give it a go yourself.
